Red Hovering Light and Doppelganger Car
Dear MARA
Recently a friend was relating an event that he experienced some time ago in the Daresbury area near Warrington/ Runcorn. It must have been a few years ago, he is now in his mid twenties and I think this happened when he was in his teens. His father used to work as a milkman delivering in the Warrington area. At times R would accompany his father on his rounds. They set off from their home in Runcorn past the Murdishaw roundabout over the M56 motorway towards the Whitehouse Industrial Estate roundabout. This would have been in the early hours of the morning, aprox 3-4am. As they turned left at the Whitehouse roundabout to go through Preston Brook, R spotted something on the opposite side of the motorway. A bright red light hovering just above the trees. They pulled into what used to be a lay-by (where the Preston Brook pub now stands) to see better. Sure enough there was a bright red light hovering above the trees and it was now slowly moving towards them. In a panic they both got back in the car and carried on with their journey. Within seconds there was another car following them very closely behind. Apparently R's father, still panicky, put his foot down while going through Preston Brook village and up towards the motorway roundabout at Daresbury. By this time the car behind was keeping very close even though they were going very fast. After passing the roundabout, R's father quickly pulled off the road near the Lord Daresbury Hotel, bumping his car up the verge in the process. The car from behind shot past and as it did, to both of their surprise and indeed horror, they noticed that the car was exactly the same make and registration as their own.The incident frightened them both so much, R's father has been unable to talk about it since and R was obviously reluctant to talk to me about it.Hope this is of some use in your research.Kind regards,Name and telephone number supplied
Strange large moving shadow over St. Helens
Dear MARA,I would consider myself a fairly keen amateur astronomer and I know a thing or two about the night sky and I have seen a few strange things in 36 years on this earth. However, what I experienced the other morning on my way to work really shook me up. I don't know if you would be interested to hear what I have to say because I have never done anything like this before. Like I say, I have seen a few strange things in my time but as you well know fearing ridicule people tend to keep their strange experiences to themselves and that's what I tend to do. However, on Friday 12th October 2007 I left my house for work, it was 5.45am and I walked down my path which is about 10 feet long and as I got to my gate I noticed a shadow moving across the pavement not 2 feet in front of me, it was moving at about a slow walking pace, the shadow was about 4 foot long by 4 foot wide. The first thing that came to my mind was that it was the shadow of an owl or some other type of bird, but when I looked up there was nothing there, so I looked down at the shadow again and it was still there moving slowly up the street, so I looked up again and nothing there. I repeated this process 4 or 5 times, each time locating the shadow as it moved slowly up the street. Now I would consider myself to have excellent eye sight and I know for sure that there was something there even though I never actually saw anything other than a shadow and whatever it was, it was beneath the street lights.
It seemed to me that there was something between me and the actual top of the lamp post as the light shined downwards to the ground, something was obstructing the light causing a shadow on the pavement. Now I know it was early in the morning but I was wide awake I don't drink alcohol or do drugs and I know what I saw was a bit weird. Whatever it was just moved up the street and disappeared and by this stage I was pretty shook up as this was the last thing I expected to see on my way to work. I was that shaken up I ran to my car got in and locked the doors, I even looked in the back seats to see if there was anything there. I don't expect you to be able to tell me what I saw, but could you please let me know if you know of anyone who has had a similar experience.
I would be very grateful if you could respond and shed any light on what I experienced. The area in which it happened was Irwin Road, Sutton, St Helens. I would be grateful and willing to give you my full permission to publish it on your Urban myth page. Furthermore, if you or any of your colleagues do shed any light on the matter, I would be intrigued to hear from you, and please do not hesitate to contact me at any time

Strange Shadow with no apparent cause in Michigan USA 2008
Hey, I was searching to see if anyone had a similar experience about a shadow with nothing to cast it. This site contained the only story I've
found so far. I had a similar experience while driving down the freeway on Highway 6, Grand Rapids, Michigan USA. It was a completely empty, blue sky at around 4 or 5pm. I think it was around March 25ish 2008.So I saw a shadow that seemed ovular in nature probably about the size of a car. I first saw it go across the road, across the median, and across the other side at a fairly brisk pace. I looked up and saw absolutely nothing there. I figured I just didn't have a good enough angle and I needed to keep my eyes on the road, but then, a couple minutes later, it came back from behind me and went overhead and in front of me. Given that I was doing 82mph, it must have been doing around 100mph. As I watched the shadow go off into the distance in front of me, I expected to eventually see something to cast such a shadow but still found nothing. I was driving toward the sun (West), so I should have seen the object in front of me before I saw the shadow, Given the size of the shadow, it should have also blocked the sun. I remember it being darker, but I certainly didn't see anything go in front of the sun. When the shadow moved both directions, it stayed ovular with the longest part being to my left and right. Given that the sun was in front of me, I'm having difficulty envisioning if that means the object was actually thinner or if that means it was circular. I'm thinking that means it was really thinner... But I dunno... Feel free to post the story if you wish and/or inform the other poster that someone else did indeed have a similar experience.
Thanks!
MARA comment: If the ovular shadow was caused by something that was disc shaped and it did not have its disc plane parallel to the apparent disc of the sun, then this would give rise to an ovular shadow with its long axis to the left and right of an observer who was travelling towards the direction of the sun.Disclaimer: All stories in the Urban Myth section of this web page have not been investigated by MARA members so we can not guarantee the accuracy of statements made, but they are a true account of the facts according to the person who supplied the story.
