Archive of UFO Cases Reported to MARA This page provides an archive of UFO cases reported to MARA for which a full investigation was not carried out. In some cases, the witnesses filled in a report form but did not want to be interviewed and in others they neither filled in a report form or agreed to be interviewed. In other cases, a conclusion was quickly arrived at and hence a full investigation was not necessary. In all cases, the event was displayed on our recent news web page http://www.mara.org.uk/Recent_news1.htm at the time that the news was recent. The purpose of the archive which started in July 2004 is to provide corroborative evidence for anyone who is looking for an event on a particular date which is why the archive is presented in chronological order with the most recent event at the top of the page. Bear in mind that more recent events will be shown on our recent news page. We also have a historical archive for incidents prior to September 2004 at http://www.mara.org.uk/historicalarchive.htm Strange Photographic Anomalies over Liverpool 9th December 2007 MARA have received the following report of strange daylight anomalies caught on a digital camera. The witness has now supplied the full size images from the incident and these are shown below (reduced in size) along with the unreduced cropped images mentioned in the report below. We have now determined with the help of a colleague (Martin Shough) that the likely cause of these anomalies are fast flying pigeons or gulls. See project IFO for an explanation of the analysis which led us to this conclusion. Hi Bill, First of all, can I assure you that this isn’t a hoax or a prank. I wondered if you would be interested in these 3 photos I took yesterday afternoon, Sunday 09/12/07 at the Paradise street bus station in Liverpool where a 150 ton footbridge was being lowered into position by a crane.
I had been taking photos of the big lift for about 20 mins when I decided to change position and swap cameras (I was initially using a Nikon D200 with a 70/300mm zoom and swapped to get a few wider angle shots with my D50 with 18/55mm lens). As I intended to use this camera on a manual setting, I took 3 sighting shots to get the correct exposure, aperture etc & the camera was set on burst with 3 frames to be exposed in just over 3/4 second. When I got home later that night and downloaded all the photos from the shoot to my PC, I noticed strange ‘anomalies’ on two of the three practice shots that I’d taken earlier with the D50 (I normally just delete these sighting shots without a thought). I must admit that I didn’t notice anything unusual at the time when I took the photos (apologies for the slightly blurred 3rd image). The sequence is:- 1) DSC0094CroppedII which the first image in the sequence shows a crane jib & a blank sky. 2) DSC0095CroppedII which shows the two anomalies in the distance behind a lamp post & to the left of a crane. 3) DSC0096CroppedII which shows the anomalies, now to the right of the crane and apparently ‘streaking away ….
As I mentioned previously, all three exposures were taken in just over ¾ of a second and if you zoom in and look closely at the second exposure (DSC0095CroppedII) you will notice that the lower of the two ‘anomalies is behind the lamp post, thus ruling out dirt on the lens … there is some grit present on the pictures but it doesn’t obstruct or interfere with the actual picture itself. It raised a lot of puzzling questions but my theories are:- lenticular clouds, (if this is the case, they were moving very rapidly & give the impression of streaking away against the wind). It could also be a quirk of the jet stream, (although the cloud base was low) ….. or where they genuine UFO‘s (Military or otherwise) … or lastly, is this just a quirk of digital photography that has manifested itself on a dull cold day?
I’ve not altered or enhanced the photos in any other way other than to crop them in order to reduce the file size for email purposes. I’d be interested in an expert opinion, Regards, Kevin Purdy
Bright Star-like object over Crosby North Liverpool UK 11th November 2007 MARA received the following report from Mr. S. On Sunday evening (11th Nov) at around 9.20pm my son, aged 11, observed a strange light from his bedroom window (Crosby) to the east (he is very familiar with the night sky). The object was very bright, (far brighter than Mars which was visible) at first stationary, yellowish in colour. It remained stationary for around 10 minutes before moving slowly for 5 seconds then zooming away at extremely high speed in the direction of Liverpool. Unfortunately I was out at the time but my mother also caught a glimpse of the object. Just wondered if anything similar has been reported? The witness has completed a telephone
report form with the following additional information. It is common for aircraft with landing lights on to appear stationary for a period of 5 minutes and then start moving after this time as the aircraft turns away from the direction of approach to the witness, but in this case, the sighting of duration extending to 15 minutes would appear to rule this out . If anyone has any more information on this sighting, please contact Bill Bimson Four Dark Disks at Southport Lancashire UK 6th October 2007 MARA received the following report from a witness to four flying disks at Southport on the 6th October. We are hoping to get more information from the witness in the near future. If anyone has any more information on this sighting, please contact Bill Bimson On 6th October 2007 my
wife and I attended the annual Southport fireworks competition. During
the break between the two displays, at a time of between 21:00 and 21:10
my wife was looking up at the stars. Several Fire Balloon Sightings on Merseyside and Elsewhere MARA have recently received several reports of fire balloon sightings, three of which we have permission to publish and have done so below. It appears that as we approach Halloween and Bonfire night, their frequency is increasing and may reach a peak in the last week of October and first week in November. On Wednesday 3rd October 2007 MARA member Jebby Robinson saw several fire balloons over St. Helens which appeared as the usual orange lights in the sky. He also witnessed some youths launching them in a field confirming exactly what they were. On Tuesday 2nd October 2007 we saw 3 fireballs in formation over St Helens Merseyside and again on the 5th we saw one other flaming ball across the whole length of the sky with bits falling of with flames streaming to the ground. Thanks Stan Talbot. On Saturday evening at around 7:45-8:00
pm on 29 Sept. 2007 my 2 children (25 & 17 years old) and myself
witnessed a similar sight in the south-south eastern sky just north of
Bedford . We were travelling in my car from Thurleigh village towards
the Kimbolton road at Ravensden. My daughter first pointed out a group
of strange lights low in the sky which she at first thought were
fireworks. There were 3 groups of 3 bright star like objects taking up
a slightly larger amount of sky as the 'plough' constellation.
They appeared as if in 'formation' and I thought were most likely a
formation of helicopters with lights. They were not moving fast
although they did seem to be changing position though this was difficult
to judge as we were moving. As we drove we lost and then
regained sight of them several times as they were obscured by trees,
hedges, buildings etc. After about 3 miles and at the top of
'Cleat hill' where I reasoned that we would get a good sight of them,
I stopped the car and we got out. By this time however, they had all
but disappeared, seemingly into cloud just 1 or 2 remained and then
that also slowly disappeared. We were left pondering the whole
slightly spooky episode and then continued on our way into Bedford.
Having seen the info on here, however, I think that the
most plausible explanation is that of the 'fire balloons'. It
was an ideal night- cold and quite clear with light wind. Grey dots flying near Helsby, Wirral UK 1st October 2007 MARA received the following report on the 1st October. If anyone else saw this phenomenon, please contact Bill Bimson Hello Bill, At 18:12 pm, I was looking up at the sky to see what type of weather was approaching, I then observed about 10 possibly more grey dots moving rapidly in an East to Westerly direction. Using my binoculars I could see dark grey dots (?) and had a job keeping track of them as they were moving quite fast. The conditions were bright overcast and the dots were below the clouds. Apart from possibly being military jets, I have no idea what these might of been. Certainly not birds. My location is Helsby facing South. Regards, After further enquiry the witness has provided the following additional information: They looked extremely small when viewing probably because of the distance from the witness. They appeared to be round. Their colour was dark grey and dull. The sighting lasted 20-30 seconds. Their direction was WNW at an angle of elevation of approximately 60 degrees and they were flying horizontally at a constant speed estimated at 80 km/hour. They were lost from sight when their flight path took them beyond some trees. Lights in the sky over Withington Manchester, UK 15th September 2007 MARA received a report from 3 witnesses of two lights in the sky over Withington Manchester on 15th September 2007. The report is given below and fire balloons were almost certainly responsible for it. For more information on fire balloons, go to Project IFO and scroll down to near the bottom of the page. Dear Bill,
MARA received the following report from Elaine Carran in Southport. Tonight, (I live in the seventh floor of a high-rise flat overlooking the sea) at 7:00pm, I observed a small round silver-reflecting object with no vapour trail that did not appear to be a plane. It was dropping vertically into the clouds. It fell from a clear sky, but then disappeared. It was fairly high over the horizon, so I did not think it was a glider and I heard no sound. If anyone has further information on this sighting please contact Bill Bimson
Lights in the sky over Walton Liverpool, UK 7th September 2007
MARA received a report from Ray Williams of a fireball in the sky over Walton Liverpool on 7th September 2007. The report is given below and a fire balloon was almost certainly responsible for it. One witness in the video that was sent can be clearly heard saying "it looks it is on fire". A zoomed in snapshot from the video after increasing the Gamma is shown below. For more information on fire balloons, go to Project IFO and scroll down to near the bottom of the page.
Yesterday (07/09/07) at 22:48hrs me and
my girlfriend witnessed an orange ball which looked like a fireball high
in the sky above Walton in Liverpool / Merseyside. Video footage and a
zoomed in picture is attached to this email. It was in sight for approx
2 minutes and was travelling south. Do you have an explanation? Ray Williams
Strange rotating arc in the sky, Southport UK 3rd/4th September 2007 MARA received the following report from Elaine Carran in Southport. Dear Mr. Bimson, On about the 3rd or 4th September, I saw a type of object in the sky over the Irish Sea. The shape of the object changed over a period of about 3/4 of an hour (drawings shown below). It shone in the sky even when the sun had set. Then in the space of 5-10 minutes it receded away disappearing over the Irish Sea. Time of the sighting was from 7:00pm until 8:15 pm. If anyone has further information on this sighting please contact Bill Bimson The drawings Elaine made of the object over the space of 3/4 of an hour are shown below.
Lights in the sky over Chorlton, Manchester, UK 3rd June 2007 MARA received a report of lights in the sky (LITS) over Chorlton, Manchester on 3rd June The report is given below and and fire balloons were almost certainly responsible for them. For more information on fire balloons, go to Project IFO and scroll down to near the bottom of the page. Hi my name is Steven Anderson Lights in the sky over Sidcup, Kent, UK 20th April 2007 MARA received two reports of lights in the sky (LITS) over Sidcup Kent on 20th April 2007. One of those reports are given below. Fire balloons were almost certainly responsible for them. For more information on fire balloons, go to Project IFO and scroll down to near the bottom of the page. To Bill Could we have just witnessed the Halewood Lights above Sidcup in Kent. Its Friday 20/4/2007 and about 30 mins ago the time then was about 9.45 pm, what looked light bright orange fire balls were moving in formation across the sky, they passed over our front garden and seemed to be heading towards the moon then slowly faded out. I have never seen this before and so logged straight onto the internet and found your site. Regards, Diane UFO sighting at Southway, Liverpool on 1st March 2007 MARA received the following UFO report on the 6th March If anyone has any further information on it, please contact Bill Bimson billbimson1@yahoo.co.uk Hi. I had a UFO sighting on the 01/03/07. It was early morning on the above date, at 01.30am. I was watching television, decided it was time for bed, walked through to the kitchen, didn't turn the light on. As I entered the kitchen there was a flash of light, Would have missed it if I'd blinked, looked out the kitchen window, There was a very bright red light about 30ft. above the roof of the house opposite. At first thought it was a helicopter, but couldn't hear any noise. Watched it for about 3min. Decided to go up to the bathroom, above the kitchen, for a better view. looking out the bathroom window gave a better view, but the light was that bright I couldn't see what it was attached too. I went to wake my son but he was fast asleep, I'm sorry I didn't wake him now ,went back to the bathroom window, It still hadn't moved. Then after a couple of minutes it started to move slowly left for about a hundred feet, stopped then it must have turned towards me, because a green light appeared close to the red one and just as bright. After a while it must have turned again because the green light disappeared leaving just the red. It then started to slowly move away at a slight angle. There was some whitish clouds to the left so I judged I might see its shape when it passed them, it's acceleration was slow but steadily speeding up. It passed the clouds too fast to get a good look, but I saw a cone shaped nose with the bank of lights on the back, there must have been a wing separating the lights. What stood out for me was it didn't make a sound, and moved slow but smoothly. I have the impression it was man made, maybe on a test flight, but what it was doing round our area of Southway in Liverpool? God knows, plus the green and red lights, its the colour code used by ships and aircraft. Can't understand why it should be lit up so bright if it's on a secret flight? Well I don't know what I saw, but I've not seen anything like it before.
Orange Lights Over Widnes Cheshire UK 7th February 2007 MARA received the following report on the 8th February 2007 from Tom Quayle (Age 9). Once again, MARA have a very young witness to a potential UFO, but Tom did his own research using the MARA website and concluded that he probably saw fire balloons. We concur. See the bottom of http://www.mara.org.uk/Project_IFO.htm for a description of fire balloons. MARA have the permission of Tom's father, John Quayle to publish Tom's account of the sighting below. On February 7th 2007 there were strange sightings of orange lights in the sky! My Dad was driving the car to drop my Sister's friend off in Widnes. I saw them and wondered what they were. They happened to be going the way we were heading, so easily we were be able to follow them. At first we only saw one and then suddenly another popped up! It looked like it was some object on fire. It was drifting across the sky. When we first saw it, it seemed to be just above the roof tops but gained height as it drifted. We thought they were UFOs at first, but I've just seen fire balloons on your website and think it must have been them! Has anyone else reported seeing them? And would anyone own up to setting them off? From Tom Quayle (Age 9) A sighting of many fire balloons caused a major UFO flap in Islington London UK on the 1st February, see http://tinyurl.com/2bdnal for details. Glowing Fireball over Staffordshire UK 13th January 2007 MARA received the following report on the 14th January 2007. There were no major meteor showers due on this date. If anyone has further information on any of these sightings please contact Bill Bimson Hi Bill, Last night round about 6 to 6.30 pm Saturday 13 January I was standing outside my caravan near Weston Village Hall, Staffordshire. It was a beautiful clear night - I had noticed a large glowing fireball which was probably about a quarter of a mile from where I was standing descending rapidly. I could not believe what I was seeing and do not understand what it was it happened so quickly. In discussion with the witness, he has stated the following: The only way I can describe what I have seen is that the object looked at first like a plane on fire as it descended. It was narrow but long and I am sure there was like flames coming from it. That is the best that I can describe it as it came over fast and the trees blocked quite a lot of my view. There was no sound at all. Ball of light seen over Staffordshire, UK 16th November 2006 Hi Bill, I live in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire and I witnessed a ball of light on the 16th November 06 at around 6pm. The ball of white light had a outer glow to it and it came across the sky quite quickly and then zig zagged downwards, it lasted about 6 - 8 seconds. I was quite taken aback by this sighting as I have never seen anything like it before. If anyone has further information on this sighting please contact Bill Bimson Kind regards Karan P Orange balls of light over St. Helens, UK 16th November 2006 and other sightings MARA received the following report on the 16th November 2006 and once again, we believe a fire balloons may have been the cause.. If anyone has further information on any of these sightings please contact Bill Bimson Hi Bill, I was just looking at your site about the orange lights over St. Helens. I have seen these twice over the past 2 weeks. The latest sighting was an hour ago. Both were in the Parr area, specifically Derbyshire Hill. Both sightings appeared to be in roughly the same area. Two orange ball like lights a distance apart but both moving together, keeping the same distance apart. On the first sighting one of them, from my viewpoint the right, appeared to enter a cloud for a few seconds and then reappear. They moved for a short time then stopped quite still then moved again. As I was walking across a road they disappeared behind a building. This evening they appeared to rise up behind some houses, hover for a few seconds, move leftwards, again maintaining the same distance, stop and then carry on moving. As I was walking with my young daughter who was cold and eager to get back to her Mum's house, I couldn't really stop and observe for very long. As with the other sightings on your site, there was no sound. Both sightings seemed to be in the same area of Derbyshire Hill, the second I estimate to be roughly 100 feet from me over a stretch of waste ground. I agree that it was probably fire balloons tethered together somehow, but it was still an eerie sight. This is not the first sighting of strange things I have seen in this area. About 7 years ago a "classic" UFO flew right over my head. As it was a winters evening the cloud cover was fairly low. I heard a throbbing, humming sound above and behind me. As I turned round there was a glow from the clouds and an object emerged. At first all I could see was a blue light surrounded by 3 blood red lights. As it got overhead, due to the clouds being low and illuminated by the local light pollution I could see that the object appeared to be a black equilateral triangle with the blue light in the centre and the red ones on each apex. I watched it until it disappeared over some houses. (As I write this, I realise that it was the same houses that the lights appeared above tonight.) A week or so later I saw the same thing from my bedroom window but it was sideways, it appeared to be banking away from me as the red lights moved together in the horizontal plane until they were a straight line above the horizon. I have always had an interest in astronomy and UFO's since I was a teenager (now 41!) so I have no doubt that I was looking at manmade things, but after reading so many reports of sightings it was a fascinating experience to have my own 'close encounter' Keep up the good work. Dave Williams Multiple white and cream lights over Great Sutton, Wirral, UK 30th October 2006 We have a report from a witness who lives in Great Sutton, South Wirral who stated that on 30th October 2006 she was awoken at 1:20 am by a very loud noise. She looked out of her bedroom window south east and saw a set of multiple bright white lights (see diagram below). The object had stopped making any sound and remained motionless for about 10-15 minutes. After 4 minutes a second series of cream coloured lights came on (second diagram). It then shot off high into the sky disappearing in a couple of seconds.
If anyone has further information on this sighting please contact Bill Bimson Orange light in the sky over Huyton, Liverpool, UK 18th October 2006 MARA received the following report on the 15th October and once again, we believe a fire balloon may have been the cause. Hi Bill I was in Huyton last night(18,10,06) at about 7:15-30 and looking over to Tuebrook / Deysbrook way, when I noticed a large orange light in the sky! It was stationary and was very bright and was bigger than a helicopter light! I have enclosed an image taken with no zoom from my 2mp Sony Errickson camera phone.
Tribute to a fellow researcher who died on 7th October 2006 It is with sadness that we record
the death of Dean Warwick, whistle-blower, inventor, civil &
structural engineer and much, much more. I’d like to join conference organisers, Sam and Jean Wright in thanking ex-MARA member, Mark Glover, for his attempts to resuscitate Dean, who sadly died in the ambulance while on the way to hospital. The conference continued on the Sunday as Dean would have wished, with speakers paying tribute to a man described by Marcus Allen of Nexus Magazine, who has known him for some ten years, as a man of strong character and spirit, who died amongst friends, doing what he enjoyed doing most. Our thoughts and condolences are with Dean’s wife, Jean and family at this sad time. Eileen Shaw (MARA) More Orange UFO's over St. Helens UK 9th October 2006 MARA received the following report on the 15th October and once again, we believe fire balloons may have been the cause. Hi Bill I was just telling my daughter about the strange phenomena I saw in the sky last Monday 9 October 2006,between 9and 9.30pm. My partner also witnessed it. There were three orange discs in the sky, moving slowly and silently across the sky and moving both up and down. About an hour or so previous to this we had heard fireworks being set off and my partner thinks they may have been some kind of firework, but I don't think that can explain these orange discs, which, as I have already said, also so moved up and down - are there any types of fireworks that can do this? I have never seen anything like this before. My daughter said that one of her work colleagues had described seeing exactly the same thing to her as I have done, and her work colleague also said there were a lot of other people outside their houses watching. This was in the Eccleston area, near St Helens Rugby League Club. I wonder if anyone else in the St Helens area has contacted you about sightings on that particular evening? Many thanks- Maureen Orange Lights in the sky over Birmingham, UK 22nd September 2006 MARA received the following report on the 22nd September. We believe several fire balloons may have been the cause of it. See the bottom of http://www.mara.org.uk/Project_IFO.htm for a description of fire balloons. If anyone has further information on the sighting please contact Bill Bimson Having searched orange lights in the sky on Google I came up with your website. On stepping outside on the 22nd September at approx 23:15, I noticed about 5 orange lights in the sky travelling in a north easterly direction in the Northfield Birmingham area. When I first viewed them, there was about 4 in close proximity to each other with a 5th travelling at a reasonable speed towards where they were settled. After about 3 or 4 minutes they just disappeared. I am not sure about their altitude but feel they were or would be about the same as an aircraft. Being an avid sky watcher through my interest in astronomy, I quite often watch for meteor showers for example, but found this extremely unusual. My initial thoughts were flares as like I read on the website, the lights never resembled any planes or the sought as it would be dangerous for any aircraft to fly this close to each other. I would presume there is a perfectly rationale explanation for this but I felt I would notify you of this for your research. I am sorry I have no pictures or video footage of this as there was not enough time for me to have done so. Orange Lights in the sky over Manchester, UK 17th September 2006 MARA received the following report on the 17th September. We believe several fire balloons may have been the cause of it. See the bottom of http://www.mara.org.uk/Project_IFO.htm for a description of fire balloons. If anyone has further information on the sighting please contact Bill Bimson Hi there...I've just witnessed something tonight as I was outside a friends house in Blackley in Manchester. The sky was clear apart from a few scattered clouds when we saw 6 maybe 7 orange lights in the sky. Close by were 2 planes which we could hear, but these other lights weren't making, as far as we could hear any sound. The time was 21:55 approx and they looked like they were in the Rochdale area and possibly beyond in a north east direction. Each of the lights moved at a similar pace...we thought they were stars at first but when we saw them moving we realised they weren't and became more intrigued. A neighbour of my friends came out and witnessed the last couple of lights also. Each light disappeared into a similar area, one by one, but again the sky in that area was cloudless. I've never seen anything like this before. I was wondering if you, or somebody else could offer an explanation? Is it worth reporting to the aviation or anybody else that has knowledge on this kind of thing?
I cant logically describe what they were. Cant be aeroplanes as they had orange lights, and didn't make a noise like the 2 other planes that were flying across the sky at that similar height. Helicopters? I'm baffled. Yours sincerely, Lee Orange lights in the sky over St. Helens, UK 16th September and 24th August 2006 MARA received the following report on the 19th September. We believe several fire balloons may have been the cause of the sightings on both dates. The item which dropped from the object was probably part of the heat source of the balloon and has been witnessed before on video over Halewood. See the bottom of http://www.mara.org.uk/Project_IFO.htm for a description of fire balloons. If anyone has further information on the sighting please contact Bill Bimson Hi, I live in St. Helens Merseyside. I have also seen orange lights on the 24th August 2006. The time was 9.40pm and I was chatting to my mate on the phone whilst stood on the front of my house. from distance I saw this orange light appear and moving slowly towards my house, you could tell it wasn't an aircraft or anything cause there was no noise. I asked my mate to see if he could see it from where he lived as it passed over my house. He replied and confirmed what I saw, but thought nothing of it until 5 minutes later when another one appeared going in the same direction and same speed as the last one, yet again he confirmed that one, 2 minutes passed then 2 at the same time appeared, 1 just below the other one then after that another one, but this one was brighter and something actually fell from it, but I can't explain what fell off it, Then on the 16 September 2006 approx 9pm, I saw just one orange light moving slowly from another angle from the previous place I had seen them. this one moved slowly towards me then changed direction but the orange light went out ,but you could see this black thing still moving in the night sky. Orange Ball of light in the sky over St. Helens UK 10th September 2006 MARA received the following report on the 11th September. We believe a fire balloon may have been the cause of it. See the bottom of http://www.mara.org.uk/Project_IFO.htm for a description of fire balloons. If anyone has further information on the sighting please contact Bill Bimson Hi Bill, I have just got home from the pictures with my girlfriend and thought I'd email you with something we witnessed outside. It was about 10.30 when we came out after the movie and we were walking back to the car when we noticed a bright orange light in the sky, it was coming over from the Beechams clock tower area, at first we thought it was the police helicopter but as it came overhead we realised it was making no sound, the only way I could describe it is, at first it seemed pretty much triangular but the light it was giving off was like a flickering effect as if it was flames. By this time another couple had joined us in the car park and they also watched it with us for about 6 minutes, it came to a stop overhead for a couple of minutes, at this time it did look as if it was flames, and they looked as if they were dying and about to go out, but then just as it looked as if it was about to disappear it set off again heading towards the Haydock area, we continued to watch from the car park until it disappeared. the other couple suggested it may have been a hot air balloon which seemed quite plausible, but I don't know whether they fly at night. I was only curious as there have been stories in the St. Helens star the last few weeks about UFOs spotted over St Helens, I checked their website when I got home and this is how I got onto this site, so I thought I would email you in case you may have heard anything else about it. there is probably a rational explanation for it, but it was certainly the strangest thing I have ever seen... 4 Lights in the sky over Aintree, Liverpool, UK: 26th July 2006 MARA received the following report from Angela Snape in Liverpool. If anyone else has further information on this sighting, please contact Bill Bimson I hope I'm not wasting your time but I wondered if you could perhaps shed some light on something I saw last night. I live in Aintree and my house backs onto the Leeds/Liverpool canal. I was locking up about 11.20pm, I'd turned all the lights off downstairs, and glanced out of the windows at the back of the house while checking the door. I noticed a bright star and it caught my attention ( I had a fleeting interest in astronomy a few years back). The sky was very clear and I was trying to make out one or two constellations (unsuccessfully). Anyway, four lights appeared moving overhead away from the house. At first I thought it was the underside of a plane flying fairly low because of the way the lights were configured. They were in a pattern whereby the front two were spaced closer together than the back two - giving the impression that they were on the body and the wings. I watched them for a second and suddenly they broke out of the pattern and started to move around each other. I was quite shocked and (dark as it was) couldn't help but unlock the door and go into the garden. The lights moved at a steady pace and continued their course away from the house over the retail park and out of sight. They didn't make any noise. I was so shocked I didn't even think to call my husband from upstairs. Their movement was very smooth while they were weaving in and out of each other. The lights were bright and whitish in colour but not as bright as a full moon I just wondered if you could offer some explanation as to what these lights could have been. Regards Angela Snape High Altitude Object Woolton Liverpool UK: 15th July 2006 MARA received the following report from Woolton, Liverpool UK. If anyone has further information on this report, please contact Mark Rosney Dear Mark, Saw your site on the web, witnessed something interesting in the sky, 6pm Saturday 15th July 06, live in Woolton Village, Liverpool, never seen anything similar before, as you know, it was a lovely summers evening, cloudless. Just happened to look up into the eastern sky and saw this luminous circular type object, motionless very high up. Looked the wrong shape for an aircraft, so thought it may have been a balloon that had cut loose which I've seen before, but noticed the sun didn't reflect of it. Pointed it out to my family who saw it as well, I continued to watch it over the next 30 minutes, it stayed in the same area of sky. About halfway through it appeared to descend very very slowly over several minutes then stop, after another couple of minutes it began to ascend very very slowly, but it always remained high in the sky. Had to go in and get ready for work, when I next looked at 6.55pm it had gone, checked the sky the same time yesterday 16th and saw nothing but there was high cloud, on reflection thought I might have seen a planet, as I know some can be seen in daylight. Any ideas? High Altitude Daylight UFO Sighting, Manchester UK: 14th July 2006 MARA received the following report from Manchester UK. If anyone has further information on this report, please contact Bill Bimson MARA's opinion is that a weather balloon is an unlikely explanation for this given the proximity to Manchester airport and the contrails described in the report. I saw an object in the sky this morning at 11.30. I am located at Manchester University just away from the city centre. It caught my eye as I was looking at the large number of contrails. The object looked like a star and was moving very slowly in a west-northwesterly direction. This was the direction in which the contrails were slowly moving so I suspect that it could be a weather balloon. However, I thought I would report it anyway. It was higher than the contrails because it diminished in brightness as the trails went past it. It was visible for around 10 minutes. I will go out and have another look shortly. Unfortunately, I couldn't get hold of any binoculars. I am happy to be contacted should it be necessary. Would be interested to hear if it was weather balloon as I don't think I've seen one before. Regards, Alastair Bewshar 2 Grey shapes in the sky over Wirral, UK: 25th June 2006 MARA received the following UFO report from Wirral, UK. If anyone has any further information on this please contact Mark Rosney Hi Mark, I hope you can explain something to me. Tonight, Sunday 25th June 2006 - at approx 8 p.m. I witnessed something in the sky I could not explain. It appeared to be 2 shapes quite high in the sky, not too far away from each other - both seemed to have 2 or 3 smaller objects around them. No flashing lights - just greyish. They seemed to travel in a northerly direction and disappeared from sight over towards the motorway, after about 2 minutes. I thought they could have been a flock of birds, or a bunch of balloons, or maybe a kite !! (kite festival in New Brighton today), but nothing seemed to fit. My husband was convinced one was a helicopter, (he did not get as good a look at them), but there was no noise or lights. Any ideas?
Flashing and moving lights in the sky: Liverpool UK 3rd May 2006 MARA received the following report on the 3rd May. Hi, me and my girlfriend live in Walton Liverpool, near Everton's football ground. We went to bed at 1am and noticed a very bright object in the sky. We watched it and noticed a little flashing object to the bottom left of it. There where no other stars out at this time because it was to cloudy. We watched it for about 40 minutes while the main bright object appeared to be bobbing in the air going up and coming back down whilst moving side to side in rhythm with the smaller object They both started moving form left to right and by this time the sky was clear and these two objects where moving faster the anything in the sky. I went outside and the north star was out at the front of the house. We watched the objects for at least 4 hours, we both where stunned by what we saw. The main object was very bright and looked like it could have been turning with very faded red, blue and green lights at the top. The second object just had red and blue lights but moved in the same way the first did. They did appear to be far away but the movement they displayed did not seem real. Can you please reply. Was there any planets or other stuff like this in the sky last night. Jupiter was in the sky during this watch period at about 20 degrees above the horizon and would have appeared as a very bright star in the South if there was no cloud cover, but it would not have appeared to move by very much, or change colour significantly, or flash. However the police helicopter was over Anfield at 2:15 am for about half an hour before moving onto Norris Green. This does have flashing lights and may have been the cause of part of the sighting. MARA would like anyone who witnessed this event in whole or part to contact Bill Bimson Light in the sky over Halewood, Liverpool, UK 3rd April 2006 The following is a sighting which occurred in the same region as the multiple sightings of the Halewood LITS. Approx time 9:10pm 3rd April 2006 sighted from my back kitchen window near the Halewood triangle as I almost face directly onto it. Started as a rapidly flashing light would be explained by plane or helicopter but it then stared going from side to side and occasionally stopping in mid flight in an instant. can give more details when asked but the most extreme was approx 30 min later I want back out to check and noticed what looked like a star quite low down but not one that I know of in any constellations. No other stars were visible, then it actually started to dim to almost invisible, then light back up. Then it disappeared and turned into a quite large bight red orb, it was very bright, brighter than the floodlights in the foreground it then flashed intermittently and then I'd say flew, but not the correct wording, almost disappeared then reappeared like hopping horizontally across the sky at very high speed till I lost sight because of the trees in the Halewood triangle. I hope you will get in touch very soon as I'm eager to see whether any other people have reported this tonight. On the same night at 10:10 pm, four MARA members were at Cafe Egg in Liverpool city centre when they heard what sounded like a military jet fly over low. They didn't see the jet, so they can't give any indication of which direction it was going. Military jet sightings have been known to accompany UFO reports on other occasions. The Ministry of Defence deny that military jets ever fly low over built up areas, but many people in Liverpool know that this is rubbish as they have seen them for themselves. If you have any further information on the UFO or jet sighting please get in touch with Bill Bimson Daylight sighting of blobs in the sky 31st March 2006 Liverpool city centre Hi I hope I’ve contacted the right people… I’ve always held a passing interest in UFO’s
& the suchlike, not a fan, just a passing interest. I was driving
through I was driving from the Tunnel towards the They were in broad daylight, at rush hour - &
there must have been multiple witnesses. If you have any other
reports, can you please let me know. It
would be fascinating to read them. It is interesting to note that Condolisa
Rice was in Liverpool Today. We have determined that the Police helicopter was in
the area for the Condolisa Rice visit. Unfortunately, the
resolution of the picture that was sent to us is so poor that nothing
can be gained from showing it here. Although the witness doesn't
completely rule out birds for this sighting, he thinks it is extremely
unlikely because of apparent size and speed of the objects. His
knowledge of objects in the sky as a paraglider pilot would lend
weight to his conclusion. If anyone has any further information
on this sighting, please contact Bill

UFO over Runcorn with a zoomed in section of the light on the right Meteor type UFO seen from Stockport UK on December 6th 2005 MARA received the following report of a meteor type UFO from the Stockport area. The sighting lasted about 6 to 8 seconds. The witnesses are quite knowledgeable about aviation and skywatching so it is unlikely that they observed an actual meteor or a conventional aircraft. If anyone has any further information about this sighting, please contact Bill Bimson Further to our phone call, I've taken the trouble to work out the headings and positions of stuff involved in the sighting of the mysterious object I observed on December 6 2005 at approximately 21:30. Our house is in Hazel Grove (Stockport) at roughly N53 22.95' W2 7.80'. This is 5.5 miles from Manchester Airport which is 260 degrees from us. Woodford Airfield (where there is evidently some military aviation equipment - although whether this has any bearing on the matter is speculation) is approximately 3.5 miles from us on a heading of 202 degrees. I was looking south east (approximately 135 degrees) when I observed the object passing from right to left, heading approximately 045 degrees. I had to look up (inclining my head about 70 degrees) to see it and from comparative observations of regular aircraft and the like, I estimate the object to have been at well above the cruising height of commercial passenger flights, i.e. above 35000 ft - probably more. I also estimate from the knowledge that these aircraft cruise at approximately Mach .85, that the object I witnessed was probably travelling at about 5000mph (i.e. about ten times the speed of a commercial aircraft). I observed the object make several instantaneous changes in direction in what appeared to be an erratic manner, then witnessed it apparently descend to come close to an airliner which I presume was circling around the boundaries of Stockport prior to intercepting the ILS for Manchester Airport's runway 24R. From my knowledge of regular aircraft movements. I guess that this aircraft was at an altitude of around 3500ft. The airliner was, at the time of my observation, travelling on a heading of approximately 340 degrees (although this is only a rough estimate). After the object appeared to interact with the aircraft, it then climbed rapidly to its original apparent altitude and resumed its original track of approximately 045 degrees. The object initially caught my attention by appearing to be a meteorite or shooting star, until I noticed that it was not moving in the way one would expect a meteor or shooting star to move. I then observed that in addition to the white colour of the object, it also had a red glow, but the red was different in character to the red position light of an aircraft, being more of a rose red than the kind on an aircraft. I'd be interested to know if you are aware of anyone else who saw this object and should point out that this is not the only time I have witnessed something like this. Just to clarify matters, I don't wear or need glasses or contacts and I'm not on any medication! As you have probably gathered from my description, I am reasonably familiar with aircraft - being dragged to airshows by my husband does that to you. So I certainly know a Boeing or an Airbus when I see one, and I can assure you that neither Boeing or Airbus made that thing which I saw. Regards, Maxine Bradbury. Halewood Lights In The Sky (LITS) seen on 18th November 2005 The Halewood LITS were seen again on the 18th November by MARA member John Hall from his house in Allerton, Liverpool UK, They were travelling from the direction of Woolton and Halewood which is only a couple of miles from John's home. A photograph was taken on a film camera, but we don't have that photograph yet. More information on the Halewood LITS is given further down this page. Rocking motion UFO over Merseyside 18th November 2005 MARA member Nikki Limb and her husband Jack saw a UFO from their home in Wallasey, Wirral, UK at 3:00pm on the 18th November. Looking North from their home towards Liverpool and Crosby, the UFO took a course which is believed to be from South East to North West. The height of the object was described as apparently above airliners in the airspace, but altitude is difficult to estimate when you don't know the size of the object that you are observing. The object itself was described as a row of white lights (at least a dozen) which looked about the size of an airliner at high altitude or 1/10th the size of the diameter of the moon. The speed of the object was much slower than that of airliners and took at least 8 minutes to traverse a section of sky. The motion was not in a straight line and the row of lights rocked back and forth as they moved along. The object was observed through binoculars to make sure that it wasn't an airliner reflecting sunlight and this was confirmed. Through binoculars it appeared to change shape to that of a kite and then back to a straight line, but the lights were visible all of the time. Unfortunately, the batteries on Jack's camera were not charged so we have no picture of this object. If anyone else saw the object please get in touch with Bill Bimson , especially if you have a picture or video of the object. Halewood Lights In The Sky (LITS) Make A Comeback: 13th November 2005 MARA have had several reports of the Halewood Lights In The Sky phenomenon http://www.mara.org.uk/Halewood_LITS.htm from the 13th November. Some people phoned in to a local radio station to report the sightings. They were described as 6 or 7 orange balls of light which drifted slowly across the sky. We have received a video showing 3 of the LITS and a snapshot from the video is shown below. 3 LITS can be seen on the left and the flare on the right is caused by the moon which is just out of shot. One amazing fact about this video is that it was taken by MARA's youngest ever witness James Doughty, aged 9 of New Hutt School, Halewood. The LITS were described by James' family as being at about the usual height of the Merseyside Police helicopter (around 500 feet). Initial estimates put the course of the LITS on a flight path going from east to west on a course through central Halewood, Liverpool UK. Their speed is very slow. One of the lights in the video shows what appears to be a small light drop away from it which might indicate a fire balloon solution in this case (see Project IFO for a description of fire balloons). To view the video on MARA's Myspace site click here then click on view my videos, then click on Halewood 5. Click back on your browser twice to return here. A picture of James is shown alongside the picture of the LITS. MARA have permission from James and his parents for his picture to be displayed here.
Report of Halewood LITS and a blue Light on 13th November Hi Bill Last night (13th November 2005) at approx 7.35 pm, I noticed a bright light in the sky, I was at the Oak Tree pub in Huyton and looking towards page moss, the light was in that direction but farther back, I thought it was the police helicopter but it was stationary for roughly 20 minutes, it seemed to have a blue tinge to it, then it just went out! Later on that night I was listening to Pete Price and many people called in re the light including one person who took a picture of it, then a family from Halewood saw 5 - 6 orange lights fly over their home, which they did capture on film! Many people I know also saw this light! Just to let you know Bill! Cheers, Tanya If anyone has any further information on these sightings, please contact Bill Bimson UFO Sighting at Prescot and Page Moss, Liverpool. Sunday 9th, October 2005 MARA received the following UFO report from Lee Rose. If anyone has any further information about this sighting, please contact Bill Bimson Dear Bill Yesterday, me and my mate had just dropped my girlfriend off at her house. When we were driving I saw a couple of lights in the sky, now these lights just at first looked like lights from a tower but they started moving, their were a couple of them. I didn't tell my mate because he would have thought I was nutz. The next thing that happened was a few miles down the road. I saw this flash. Now I am not saying my mate saw it cause I don't think he did. I saw it in the corner of my eye and I know for a fact it wasn't a street light, it was like a Pure White Flash..!!! I looked up and could see this object hovering in the sky with a type of GOLD light coming from it.... and then for some reason I started to get the feeling SICK!!! and I started burning up. After I got home I felt fine? Does anyone think that this could have caused me to feel sick? Location: Prescot and Page Moss, Liverpool, UK. Date: 9th October 2005. Time: It was around 9:10pm. Size: It was like a small GOLD Ball shape. Speed: The object was just hovering slowly over the sky and then I saw a white flash out of the corner of my eye. The sky was clear and all stars could bee seen, and their was no way that this Bright GOLD UFO was a Star. no way. Their was definitely 100% strange happenings in the sky on Sunday. MARA received a further UFO report from a different witness about a sighting on the 10th October, but we don't at present have the witnesses permission to publish the details. UFO Sighting on 8th October 2005 at Norton near Runcorn UK MARA received the following report from Martin Antrobus. If anyone has any further information about this sighting, please contact Bill Bimson Hi Bill, I witnessed an object last Saturday night at around 20.30 hrs from my garden in Norton near Runcorn. I'm an amateur astronomer, just bought some new binoculars and a tripod for the winter and was in my rear garden to take a look at the clearing skies. It had been a wet day but the evening quickly cleared so I got set up outside and was allowing my eyes to adjust to the darkness and was looking at the region of sky around Perseus (north east). I heard a car alarm sound off somewhere to my left and looked away from my binoculars and at that moment a fast moving object came into view from behind a neighbours house. It was moving in a north east to south west direction and at very high speed passing above the Norton water tower and towards Preston on the Hill. I live near to a large electricity pylon and there was a sound similar to the noise made when moisture crackles on the wires. Within what must have been a couple of seconds the object had covered 90 degrees of my field of view and had gone behind another house and out of sight. My first thought as it flashed into view was it must have been a pigeon lit from underneath by a street light but I realised that it had pure white lights in three rows along it's side. Some lights (at the rear) looked larger. I'm an ex-military fireman and have worked with fast jets in all weather conditions and have not seen anything resembling this before. The colour of the craft was a sodium yellow and the lights along the side (three rows) were pure white. Height I can only guess at, but it kept on a straight course so would have needed to be at least 500ft to clear the surrounding structures like the water tower and pylons. Of note that evening I noticed a couple of sporadic meteors but they were from the direction of the plough. I don't think this object could have been a fireball because it didn't brighten or fade and didn't leave a trail. I regularly witness the International Space Station and satellite passes so I feel happy to discount those as a possibility. Why I'm contacting you is because i was aware of the LITS observed in previous years but had excluded them from my thoughts because of the high speed that my object seems to be travelling. I've had this sighting on my mind all week and have only discussed it with one colleague at work. When I viewed the MARA website tonight I was struck by the similarity between the object I saw and that reported by Phil Gilks on Friday 18th October 2002. It is the lights forming rows that struck a chord hence my reporting this to you. If I can be of further help then please email me. Regards Martin. UFO sighting near Manchester Airport England, 23rd July 2005 MARA received the following UFO report from a member of the public. If anyone has any further information about this sighting, please contact Bill Bimson Dear Bill, I found your website by doing a search tonight on Google. I hope that I am e-mailing the appropriate person but I wanted to report an unusual sighting tonight. I happened to be looking out from my kitchen window out over the garden tonight, in a north-westerly direction at 21.45. I saw an object in the sky. It was a dark, round object, around 20 degrees above the horizon and it remained absolutely stationary for about 3 minutes. It appeared to have caught the last rays of the sun below the horizon because it glinted briefly like a high-flying aircraft; it was this glint which caught my attention. There were no clouds in the sky and it stood out against the dark blue background. I had thought it was a distant hot air balloon but it unexpectedly moved to the left and then upwards. I shouted out to my wife to get the video camera but the object was too small to focus on. Around 3 minutes after I first noticed the object , it moved to the right and then disappeared. I scanned the sky with binoculars but could not see anything. We live under a very busy stretch of airspace but typically, I could not see any aircraft at all and there were no vapour trails which I could compare the object's position to. Also, there had been a regular stream of aircraft coming off Manchester Airport's runway 06L but at this point, there was nothing to compare the object's position/altitude with. Hope this is of interest. I have excellent eyesight and am a keen planespotter and know that this was no normal aircraft. I saw something like this some years ago but didn't report it because somebody else had already posted it on the internet with a description which matched mine perfectly. Look forward to hearing from you and am hoping that some other people saw it. Best wishes, Alastair Bewsher Halewood LITS phenomenon at other places in the world The Halewood Lights In The Sky (LITS) phenomenon http://www.mara.org.uk/Halewood_LITS.htm is the UFO case that we have the most video and photographic evidence of and up until recently, almost all of the evidence came from the South Liverpool (UK) region and one possible photo came from Fleetwood on the Fylde coast. However, we have recently received reports from Cheltenham and Essex, UK and Adelaide, South Australia. All three reports are given below and the Essex report has a picture of the LITS. The following report comes from the Gloucestershire Echo and remains copyright to the Gloucestershire Echo. The article is reproduced with permission and describes a very similar phenomenon to the Halewood LITS in the Cheltenham area. DOZENS REPORT SEEING SPOOKY ORANGE LIGHTS 10:30 - 25 August 2005 Dozens
of people have reported seeing mysterious orange lights above
Cheltenham. The Echo has been inundated with calls from
people who saw the unexplained lights on Saturday night. John Day,
48, took the picture of them while hosting a party at his Up
Hatherley home. John Creed saw the lights
with his wife and six friends while at a house in Warden Hill
Road, Warden Hill. He said: "Amazingly, the group
seemed at one point to slowly take on the positions of the stars
in The Plough or Big Dipper, not unlike those in a scene in the
film Close Encounters of the Third Kind, before drifting apart
again. "These were definitely not conventional
aircraft. "I've had a keen interest in aircraft since a
boy and have held a private pilot's licence for the last 33 years,
so I'm well aware of the sort of lights displayed on conventional
aircraft. "I'm also a retired police officer. We all agreed
that these objects were remarkable and unlike anything any of us
had ever seen before."
Lights in the sky over Witham in Essex I saw exactly what has been described in your website last night, Saturday 9th July 2005 - over Witham, Essex. Here is what I sent to the Sky At Night email address: Can you tell me what these lights might be which we witnessed around 22:30 on Saturday, 9th July. Attached are some still images but we also have some video. There were dozens of orange lights moving approximately north to south. They moved steadily and quite slowly, all at the same speed. It took about 20 minutes for them to pass. Here are a couple of images. Unfortunately the resolution of my camcorder (which took video & stills) is not that great hence orange colour is not evident. Regards Gerry Shepherd MARA have now received video footage of the Witham LITS from Gerry Shepard and we are very grateful to him. We can confirm that this phenomenon has all of the same characteristics as the Halewood LITS phenomenon. A still from the video footage is shown below.
To see this video on MARA's Myspace site, click here then click on view my videos, then click on Witham Fire Balloons Click back twice on your browser to return here. It now appears that the LITS seen in many places around Essex including the ones in Witham shown above are probable the result of Fire Balloons which are also known as Thai or Chinese Lanterns see the bottom of http://www.mara.org.uk/Project_IFO.htm for a full description of Fire Balloons. Halewood lights in the sky travel to the other side of the planet MARA received the following report from Ingle Farm on the outskirts of Adelaide, South Australia. My friends and I were outside a few hours ago and a set of strange bright orange lights passed over us, and then disappeared gradually. This whole process took about 10 to 15minutes..and they moved very slowly, and also formed into a kind of "U" shape before the disappeared. Some people in a car passed by, and said they had phoned the airport, and that the "LITS" were definitely not any form of aircraft. This was fairly obvious already, because of the speed they travelled and the total absence of any sound. None of us had a clue what these lights were, so I decided to look it up on the internet, and then was relieved to see we haven't been the only ones, LOL.
One of my friends took some photo's with
their phone, but other than that we could only admire this strange
occurrence.Well I'm not sure if you include sightings from Australia,
but in case, we witnessed them in Ingle Farm, South Australia. The witness gave their exact location as outside "Hungry Jack's" at Ingle Farm on the outskirts of Adelaide and the time of the sighting was around 10-11pm. It is impossible for MARA to investigate this sighting properly because of the distance from Merseyside, but the description of the sighting appears to be very similar to the Halewood LITS and this is our first report of the phenomenon from outside of England. Note that winter is just approaching in Adelaide in late April and all of the Halewood LITS sightings have been during winter. The witness later confirmed that the picture taken on the camera phone didn't turn out, probably because the CCD chip on the camera phone was not sensitive enough. He also stated that it was unusually warm in Adelaide for the time of the year which probably rules out any atmospheric explanation for the LITS because all of the Halewood sightings have taken place during cold conditions. If anyone else has information on this type of LITS sighting from anywhere in the world please contact Bill Bimson UFO wave hits Runcorn 20th /21st January 2005 MARA have been informed that a UFO wave hit Runcorn on the evening of 20th January and early hours of 21st January. Many people phoned a local radio station (Radio City 96.7 FM) to talk about the UFOs they had seen. MARA received two reports from witnesses as detailed below. Dear sirs, Having come across the MARA website at the weekend I felt the need to follow up a recent experience directly - in a search for more information. A brief description follows. Around 1210am on Friday 21st Jan, myself and my girlfriend and 2 neighbours all remarked almost at the same time, how bright and peculiar looking 3 particular lights were overhead in the sky. Much lower than the other stars and much more vivid, they appeared to be fuzzy and actually swaying in the sky. On closer inspection we were amazed to see these and about another 20 lights less vivid actually intermittently flashing - both red and white and glowing at the same time. They were describing occasional abrupt direction changes immediately left and right of their positions. Some 7-10 appeared in an arc, slowly moving from left to right along the horizon. They then split into groups and slowly changed their positions in the sky all the time exhibiting weird characteristics of movement and light. At this point we all became absolutely incredulous, with about 20 people from surrounding houses out looking as well. We decided to call the police and were joined a half hour later by 4 officers of Cheshire Police who were also at a loss to explain and said they had received similar reports - and who took an incident report. As a former member of the RAF I was aware that the Royal Observer Corps had been discontinued and thus prompted the officers present to take an official line on this. They logged an incident summary. I also telephoned Liverpool ATC Tower who were unable to identify anything on radar but WERE able to see from their position the phenomenon through binoculars. We also have a videotape of the lights. The above show seemed to last till about 5am and disappeared with the dawning light. As a hopefully respectful member of the public but also a trained observer and son of someone with a certified current PPL - I would be greatly interested to know if this is something reported regularly in this area and what conclusions/information/theories and fact there may be to learn from the above? Has anyone else reported similar and if so to what result? Please accept my thanks for consideration of this email and I look forward to hearing from you in advance! Sincerely Hi Bill .........I live in Runcorn (Grange Estate) ... Last Thursday, 20.01.05, I arrived home at 3.30am (really Friday I suppose) after helping a friend in her new house. Her boyfriend was in my garden staring up at the sky & on the phone to Liverpool Airport, questioning if they'd spotted anything unusual. There were approx 30 sets of 3 star shaped objects jerking in the sky. They were silver with red centres. Then came a green, saucer shaped object, followed by a same shaped red one. They seemed to be chasing each other & firing lasers of their colour at approaching aeroplanes. More & more happened/appeared, that I ended up ringing the local police. 2 bobbies attended at 7am. 1 was amazed, the other was amused! These lights appear most nights during cloud break. Have you had any other reports from this area? Amanda Wright. MARA are expecting at least one report form from witnesses and we will investigate further when we receive it. If you have any further information on these sightings please contact Bill Bimson billbimson1@yahoo.co.uk UFO sighting in St. Helens, Merseyside 2nd January 2005 The following report came in from a member of the public on the 7th January. If anyone has any further information on this sighting please contact Bill Bimson billbimson1@yahoo.co.uk Hi
Bill...I am just writing to tell you about the object I saw recently. On
the second of Jan at about 3.30am I got up to make a drink and at
the time it was hail stoning outside. I looked outside and saw a red
triangular shape in the sky just hovering there. There was no sound as it
was really stormy and I noticed that the three corners of the triangle
were curved and not pointed as you would normally expect to see. There was
a bright white light which seemed to flash in sequence from one corner to
the other and as I looked at it, it turned sideways and the triangular
shape then appeared to be part of a bigger object, but the shape wasn't
too clear as it was dark. It just went off slowly then across the sky!
This sighting occurred in the Sherdley Park are of St. Helens. Hope
this helps you and maybe you could email me to let me know your thoughts
on this!! Happy New Year and many more ufo sightings to you!! UFO sighting near Liverpool docks on 3rd October 2004 Hi m8 I was taking some pictures of our old dock road last Sunday 3rd October at aprox 14:00 hrs and on 1 of my picture there is a object in the sky near the Tate & Lyle Silo. I don't remember any plane flying by. I have a 8 megabit camera, so the details is good. The camera shutter, speed was set to very fast at the time . The witness stated that their was no noise at the time the picture was taken and a compressed version of the picture is shown below along with a non-compressed version of the part of the picture containing the object (right). MARA believe this is a military aircraft of some sort, but we can't identify the type. If anyone has an idea what this may be, please contact Bill Bimson billbimson1@yahoo.co.uk
We have had a reply from Richard Gibbs about this sighting and while we think that his answer is unlikely to be the correct one, it is the best answer that we have at the moment. Thanks to Richard for responding and sending in his analysis. Hi Mara, Very interesting picture of the plane over the docks. I live in sunny Bootle and have seen a few strange planes over the area in the last few years....even some ball lightning/ plasma ball many years ago. I am interested in photography so I set about trying to make the picture clearer (not easy). I believe that the plane is a Harrier jump jet. More likely a Sea Harrier. The 'pod' on its nose could be for electronic equipment as in the Nimrod planes of the eighties. The pod does look huge compared to the jet but it could house microwave receivers for intercepting communications and does not need to be heavy if you know what I mean. I have included a couple of pictures. I am no expert but see what you think. Cheers Richard Gibbs
